Romney breeding stock for sale ~ Pitchfork Rams

Costello, bred by Ray and Marlene Gavin at Skyview Farm, was added to our breeding program in 2000. Impressive in size and length (34" at shoulder, 38" from neck to dock, 270 lbs. as a yearling), his lambs have been  outstanding-- extremely growthy, with stretch, style and substance, covered by superb fleeces. They have been in very high demand.

This ram , more than any other single animal, represents the biggest step forward in the quality of our flock in the history of our  farm. Costello contributed all he could to our flock's genetics and was sold to Leslie Bennett and Ron Paul of Boyne City, Michigan. He provided them a wonderful crop of lambs before his untimely demise due to being stuck by a falling tree during a thunderstorm in May of 2006.

In 2001, Costello was named Supreme Champion White Ram at Michigan Fiber Festival, and Grand Champion Romney Ram at the Michigan State Fair. He also placed second at NAILE in 2001.

PFR 338 AI ("Oscar") was bred here at Pitchfork. His sire is NZ Offord 336/98. He was born in the last week of January, 2003. Oscar exhibits the impressive, size, structure and fleece quality. He has raised the standards by which we judge any candidates for stud ram at our farm.  He is passing on his high growth rate and excellent structure to his lambs.

Oscar won his class of 16 at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival in May, 2003. He then won his class and was named Reserve Champion at the  Michigan State Fair in August of 2003. In 2004, he was third in his yearling class at Maryland (won by another Pitchfork ram)  and was named Champion Romney Ram at the Michigan State Fair before being chosen as the Supreme Champion Wool Breed Ram. His son, PFR 399, sold to Ron Andress of PA, was named Grand Champion White Romney Ram at MSWF 2006.

PFR 353 ("Sterling") is also a Pitchfork-bred ram, but we had a little help from Kelly Ward's ram Pepper, loaned to us in a ram exchange in 2002. Sterling has a lot to recommend him: good size, especially for a black ram, longer legs, correct conformation, and a lustrous, consistent fleece.

Sterling was named Champion Natural Colored Coarse Wool Ram at the 2003 Michigan State Fair.

He also won the same award at the 2004 Michigan State Fair.

"Cyrus" (Bullock 0561 ) was purchased from Larry and Gaylia Bullock in Washington. His sire, Claymoor 474-00 Imp. is the white ram the Bullocks imported in 2002 from New Zealand. Cyrus' fleece is consistent with medium wide crimp and lock and plenty of luster. His conformation is excellent, with the trademark Bullock legs and a long, thick loin.  Here he is winning the top honors at  the Michigan State Fair. His first lambs were born in February 2007.

"Billy" was acquired as a yearling from Springfield Farms of Rock Hall, MD in Spring, 2008. He was named Champion Romney Ram at the 2008 Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. We are looking forward to the considerable frame and outstanding conformation he will add to our flock.

We have also been using carefully selected New Zealand Romney and UK Bluefaced Leicester rams in artificial insemination of some of our top ewes. We welcome the extra diversity this adds to our breeding program.
