The
principal breeding goal of Pitchfork Llamas is to produce a versatile,
balanced animal -- well-conformed, well-mannered, sound, useful, and
beautiful to look at. In our view, all these factors are essential to
the overall well being of the llama, both as an individual and as a
species. Overlooking the less obvious areas, such as disposition or
milking ability, in pursuit of more obvious traits deemed desirable
(read "trendy") jeopardizes not just a single animal, but the llama
breeding industry as a whole.

| We show our animals at between five and ten ALSA-sanctioned shows each year. We have attended Nationals and placed consistently in the Top Ten of huge and very competitive classes. In spite of this success, we strive to produce more than just an exceptional show animal. We breed only the best of our females to carefully selected males (often belonging to other breeders). In doing so, we diversify and strengthen our bloodlines while supporting other breeders. By not breeding every open female, we avoid adding to the oversupply of animals for sale (and also help to maintain our own health and sanity). |

Our breeding herd is small but select. We are not among the biggest breeders or the most well known, but we believe that anyone who has bought from us (and many who haven't!) will attest to the quality and appeal of our animals. We will gladly provide such references on request. | |
