An ideal guard is a non-breeding llama (gelded male or female) that has repeatedly displayed distinct canine-aggressive guarding behavior. All of our animals have been raised with and are currently pastured with our sheep. We guarantee their guarding behavior when faced with single canines. Be aware that no single llama can be an effective guard against an aggressive attack by multiple canines. Guard llamas often work most effectively in pairs.

All our llamas are gentle and easily handled. They will learn to tolerate familiar dogs. 

We occasionally  have non-breeding females that act as extremely effective guards. We have found that female guards work best in pairs, or at least within the sight of another llama. In spite of the fact that most of our female guards are breeding quality and fertile, please note that no female sold as a guard will be sold with registration papers.
